DAVID'S HALO IS OFF! I recieved a message from David and Mary. They are so happy. It still shows the fractures and C1 fused to C2 which they were hoping that it wouldn't. Doctor said that it was a chance it would happen. He has to wear the neck brace for I think he said 6 weeks and back for another CT and xrays. Thanks to all his friends that kept him in our prayers! ! ! Thanks

The Red Knights TX3 2011 Annual Talimena Ride was full of challenges, great scenery, winding roads, great weather and great fellowship. There were twelve bikes that made the ride. They were:
Ride Coordinator - Jeremy Cutbirth - TX3
David Blake - TX3
Niltz Blanton - TX3
Dickie & Debbie Cutbirth - TX3
Robert & Mandi Haynes - TX3
Charles Lancaster & Carol (Guest) - TX3
Donnie & Connie McComb - TX3
Victor Mendez - TX3
Mark Meddleton - Atascocita
David Brandt - TX4
Ed & Tammy Karnes - TX4
Frank & Susan Weido - TX4
Dave & Janet Whelan - TX4
Mike & Donna Phillips - TX11
Tracy Chisum & Brianna Gregory - TX11
Niltz Blanton met us along the route and joined us for the remainder of the ride. While Mike & Donna and Tracy & Brianna met up with us in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Our first challenge was on the way to Oklahoma. Dickie had chunks of rubber coming off his rear tire and had to get it replaced. He found a shop that was about to close that agreed to help him and in 20 minutes, he was back on the road. We all got checked into our hotel and went for dinner and then hung out by the pool for some drinks and fellowship. The weather and riding was great.
Saturday, we had breakfast and headed out for the Talimena Scenic Drive. David Brandt's son needed to get a tire. David and his son were to catch up with us after they took care of the tire. David caught up with us on the Indian Highway without his son. We later found out that his son was unable to get a tire and went to Longview to get his truck. Our next challenge of the ride occurred shortly after David caught up with the group. While attempting to manuever a hairpin curve, David went down. An ambulance came to take him to Talihena Oklahoma Hospital. We loaded David's bike up on Charles Lancaster's trailer and took it to the hospital for Frank and Susan to drive back to their cabin. The initial diagnosis was that David's injuries were only muscular....... not all tests results were in then. The group decided to continue the ride to Mena Arkansas on the Talimena Scenic Drive to eat at the Chopping Block. All in all, the ride was great, the scenery beautiful, the roads winding and the weather outstanding. All the time, our minds and prayers were with David and his family. We received updates on David continuously. The doctors said that David's C2 was shattered, his C3 was fractured and his C! was possibly fractured as well. They were attempting to stabilize him for the jet from Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston to transport him back to Houston. We got back to the hotel and sat at the pool for drinks and fellowship before turning in from an exhausting day.
Sunday brought news that the Memorial Hermann jet was on its way to get David. Frank and Susan rode back with us. We rode just behind the rain and only got into it for a minute or so. Ed and Dickie had some squirrelly manuevers on the wet roads on the way home but remained upright. The riders from Galveston / League City ended up getting soaked before getting home. But, everyone got home safely.
Except for David's accident, we had a great ride with great weather and great fellowship. Our prayers are with David and his family. Thank you to Jeremy for his work in putting this ride together and making all of the plans. We hope to see everyone back with us next year. Check out our calendar for 2012 dated to be set before year end. Thank you for everyone that rode and we hope you had a great time.
